The three forms
- Form 1, Part Number Accountability: identifies the part, drawing number and revision, serial number, FAI reason and the assemblies or detail parts covered.
- Form 2, Product Accountability: lists materials, special processes and functional tests, with the supplier and the specification each one is made to.
- Form 3, Characteristic Accountability: one row per drawing characteristic, with the balloon number, the requirement and tolerance, the measured result, the tooling used and any non-conformance.
Form 3 fields
For each ballooned characteristic you record where it is on the drawing, the nominal and tolerance, the actual measured value, the gauge or tooling designation, and whether it passes. A result outside tolerance is a non-conformance and needs to be reported on the form.
Where hand-filled forms go wrong
Typical errors are a measured value copied against the wrong balloon, a tolerance read from the wrong revision of the drawing, and a missed pass/fail check on a one-sided tolerance.
A free browser tool
FAIR Lite collects the same fields in the browser, checks each measured value against its tolerance and prints a PDF report. Data stays in your browser. The free version adds a watermark; Pro ($49 per month or $399 per year) removes it and saves unlimited reports.
FAIR Lite collects AS9102 Rev C data fields. It is not the official IAQG form and some customer portals only accept their own forms or file formats, so check your customer's requirements first. Not legal or certification advice.
